Meaningful Chords, Meaningful Soloing

Group guitar class taught by Jude Smith

1 hour per week · intermediate

I'm gonna show you how to put meaning and conviction behind what you are saying. Your first assignment will be this: Stop saying things you don't really mean! Start saying what you really believe in and want to say. The music we make comes from our souls, and if our soul hasn’t learned this very valuable life lesson of conviction and honesty, then our ignorance will show up in our music. You’ll play and say all sorts of things you don’t really mean until you understand this. Got it? Good? Great, let's get going...

Yo! Jude Here! I love music... let's make some!
What you'll do

Honesty

Say what you mean, and mean what you say.

Chord Variations

I'll show you how I take ordinary chords, and make them more interesting. Chords are colors, and they are the primary resource we have as musicians to paint our backdrop for our melody.

Chord Progressions

I'll show you how to combine different chords in more meaningful ways that add excitement and anticipation to the song.

Scales

I'll show you how I think about scales on the guitar, and how I use them in unique ways to avoid sounding like you're just running up and down the scale. The 4 and the Major 7 are so important... we'll get into why!

Soloing

Once we have some unique chords, a great progression, and then an understanding of our scale, I'm gonna show you how to bring it all together and say something meaningful. You'll be surprised at how easy this is!

Who you are
Intermediate Level - knowledge of the basics of guitar is assumed here (tuning, beginner chords, frets, basic pentatonic scale knowledge). This class will help both lower and higher level intermediates alike.
What to bring
Electric Guitar (preferred for soloing sections) Tuner Quarter Inch Cable Amplification (Amp or some sort of Amp Simulation) Acoustic can suffice however!

Jude Smith is not only an incredible gifted young musician but his knowledge about music production is very technic and practical.

The audio is good and working, but I wonder if there are options that TIL has that can improve the audio of your DAW on our end (I'm thinking of Zoom where you can turn off background noise reduction and it makes music sound better). I can hear the examples ok, but I think we are losing some nuance.

Life changing class for anyone starting or intermediate level of mixing, as well as some production/arragement stuff. Jude is incredibly versatile, and we've looked at tracking and mixing so many different instruments and sounds! I came out with so much more knowledge and things to guide me in my projects! Heavily recommend!

Jude is the best! His knowledge and approach to music production is refreshing and inspiring. He's patient, thorough and always makes sure everyone is grasping the concepts he's teaching. Throughout the class he's constantly sharing helpful tips and tricks and gives his honest thoughts on topics like equipment, plugins, workflow, and songwriting. I started this class with limited knowledge of music production but now that it's over, I have gained the confidence I need to record and produce my own songs using Jude's methods! If you are able to jump into one of his classes, you will have a blast!

Very helpful - I would continue on but my work just got insanely busy. I sure hope I can catch up on the class I missed and post my mix
